This "AIR" environmental category, linked with all of the other categories helps sustain our environment. Students are encouraged to investigate air quality issues in relation to health and climate by incorporating classroom subjects, content standards, real world information, and youth group badge or patch requirements. The integrated projects, partnership collaborations and community service help improve the community and world!
AIR PROJECTS
WALKPOOL AT MARBLEHEAD SCHOOL
Capistrano Unified School District, San Clemente, CA
Parents and teachers were concerned about the loss of school busses due to budget cuts and the increased automobile traffic coming to the school each morning and afternoon. A major concern was poor air quality surrounding the parking lot and school. As a result their students met with the PTA to develop a "walkpool". Parents were identified in each neighborhood to "walk" the children, in that neighborhood, to school. This program limited car traffic at the school and provided exercise for the students and parents.
WALKNROLL AT CONCORDIA SCHOOL
Capistrano Unfied School District, San Clemente, CA
A similar program was established across town at Concordia School where students walked or rode their bikes to school instead of being transported in cars.
